Step 3: The 'Safety Stock' Buffer (Your 10% Rule)

Here's a step most people ignore. When you calculate how much you need for the emergency, add 10% to that volume. Not for waste—for the pressure change, the purging, and the unexpected downstream request.

  3. Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Does the driver need a full-face respirator to enter your facility? If yes, do they have one?   • What was the single point of failure that almost broke the process?

This documentation is gold. It feeds back into your planning. Maybe you need a larger on-site storage tank. Maybe you need a contractual agreement with a secondary supplier. Maybe you need to train your staff on the connection verification step.
